Automation Engineer

Position Summary and Essential Functions

The Automation Engineer will participate in the design and implementation of process strategies as part of our engineering team. Candidates need to possess a fundamental understanding of design process control systems and strategies. This position is client facing and a successful candidate will be a professional, self-motivated, and energetic individual with excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

  • Design and troubleshoot both software and hardware necessary for control systems utilizing PLCs and DCS/SCADA components, e.g. historian, batching, enterprise visualization products, etc.
  • Design, diagnose, and troubleshoot network infrastructures – Ethernet, DeviceNet, AS-i, Profibus etc.
  • Design, specify, wire, and procure control panel equipment, e.g. safety circuits, I/O, networks, etc.
  • Design, specify, and procure electrical equipment, e.g. MCCs, panelboards, transformers, etc.
  • Specify, procure, configure and troubleshoot controls hardware and field instrumentation
  • Develop bid documentation for electrical, automation, and low voltage (network, security) vendors
  • Interface and manage installation contractors during construction

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience required
  • Candidates without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree will not be considered.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and AutoCAD (electrical schematics, layout/building drawings, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, GE, Wonderware, Honeywell Systems
  • Familiarity with database programming skills a plus
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus, but not required

Travel Requirements

Travel to client construction sites will be required of this position. Candidates should expect overnight travel not less than 25% of the year.

Mechanical Utilities Engineer

Position Summary and Essential Functions

Candidates should have a strong design knowledge and experience in:

  • Ammonia or Freon central refrigeration systems used to support food processing and storage at large facilities
  • Freon split systems used to provide cooling at smaller facilities
  • Steam/condensate, compressed air, chilled glycol/water generation, water filtration systems
  • Piping systems for utility distribution
  • Generation of equipment and piping specifications, utility PFD’s & piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Knowledge of national, state and insurance requirements for installations, pressure vessels, and piping
  • Energy efficiency, consumption and utility incentives
  • Installation supervision and system start up assistance
  • Report writing and presentations to clients

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years of relevant design experience
  • 2+ years of relevant field experience (i.e., installation oversight, contractor experience)
  • Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree, candidates without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree will not be considered

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience with sanitary environments, the food industry or industrial design is a plus
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • PE or FE certificate

Construction Manager

Position Summary and Essential Functions

Dennis Group is currently seeking Construction Managers to travel and/or relocate to commercial industrial project sites. Successful candidates will aid in the management of construction project sites as part of a broad engineering, architectural and project management team.

  • Establishes and manages site safety procedures
  • Management of site, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.
  • Assists in project management (development of project scope, budget and schedule)
  • Coordinating the schedules and work of contractors for building and process disciplines
  • Overseeing process & utility equipment installations
  • Permitting, code and regulatory approval
  • Change order administration
  • Coordination of field engineering
  • Adherence to project construction schedule and construction documents/specification
  • Inspection coordination
  • Management of facility start-up
  • Manages 3rd party testing and inspection

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the following:
    • Industrial building systems
    • Process utilities and/or process equipment installation a plus
    • Construction job site control and project management
    • Contractor/supplier management
    • Safety and risk management (OSHA Certification preferred)
    • Construction scheduling
  • Bachelor’s degree; candidates without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree will NOT be considered
  • Requisite proficiency with MS Office
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD a plus

Process Engineer

The Process Engineer will participate in the design and implementation of process equipment strategies as part of our engineering team as well as coordinating process activities with other discipline engineers within the organization. Candidates need to possess a fundamental understanding of mass balances, energy balance, and fluid transfer, as well as, problem analysis and attack skills.   • Develop process design basis and select unit operations
  • Prepare process flow & piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Prepare mass and energy balances
  • Size and specify process and process utility equipment
  • Equipment procurement and bid evaluation
  • Assist project management with the development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process related work
  • Help coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for process equipment installation
  • Oversee process and utility equipment installations
  • Start-up and commissioning

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • AutoCAD experience is a plus
  • Strong technical and writing skills
  • 3+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing setting or working as a consulting process engineer is preferred
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus, but not required

Industrial Packaging Engineer

Position Summary and Essential Functions

  • Vendor/supplier selection and equipment procurement
  • Supervision of installation and start-up of related systems / contractor supervision and vendor management

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • An understanding or experience with conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing and palletizing
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing and packaging design principles
  • Fundamentals of machine and process design
  • Preparation of line balance documentation and process flow diagrams
  • An understanding or experience with warehouse design and layout
  • Preparation of equipment specification, purchase documentation and equipment / facility layout
  • Preparation of machine testing requirements and procedures
  • An understanding of sanitary design principles is a plus
  • Process simulation experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Access); MS Project, AutoCAD
  • Strong technical writing skills

Electrical Engineer

Position Summary and Essential Functions

The Electrical Engineer will participate in the design and implementation of electrical systems as a part of our engineering team. Candidates need to have a working knowledge of AutoDesk Building Systems 2015 (electrical Systems and 3D layouts), EasyPower or equal, NFPA 70, 70E, 72, 101, 110, and Building Code. This position is client facing and a successful candidate will be a professional, self-motivated, and energetic individual with excellent communication and inter-personal skills.

  • Design electrical systems for building power; i.e. Normal, Emergency, and Standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities
  • Document all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc.
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs; Coordinate fixture placement/mounting with other trades
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and Building Code
  • Produce bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC’s, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS’s
  • Manage electrical bid process for clients, observe construction, and assist with start-up

Required Education, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3-6 years of experience required
  • Candidates without a minimum of a bachelor’s degree will not be considered
  • FE or EIT certificate required; PE or PE-tracked desirable
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills are a plus, but not required
